Global Context for Partisan Animosity
We track democratic health across diverse nations, each experiencing varying degrees of backsliding, to discern international patterns and pinpoint shared threats to democratic resilience and stability.
Ongoing since Feb 2023
Affective Polarization
We ask citizens around the world to rate their own party, as well as the other major parties in their nations.
Here we operationalize affective polarization as the difference between their own party rating, and the average of how they rate competing parties.
Political violence
We assess support for support for two nonviolent crimes and four violent crimes motivated by partisanship.
Support for Democratic Norm Violations
In consultation with experts from each nation, we identified the most significant threats to their respective democracies and measured public support for each of these challenges.
